Space Intelligence Land Cover Data
Space Intelligence land cover data is available for customers in the Standard and Enterprise plans.
Overview
This land cover dataset from Space Intelligence maps habitat types for available countries with 10m spatial resolution. Derived from Space Intelligence’s HabitatMapperTM technology, the data is generated using a dense stack of satellite data from multiple sources, using machine learning algorithms that are trained and tested with expert ecological input.
Each map involves tens of thousands of manually checked training and testing polygons, selected by ecological experts within the Space Intelligence team. These polygons focus on the transitions between ecological classes, producing maps with minimum confusion between hard to separate classes such as tree crops and natural forest. In-country experts and field campaigns are used where necessary to gain sufficient locally relevant ecological data. The final maps are again reviewed by experts, with adjustments made as necessary to ensure high levels of accuracy throughout an Area of Interest.
These audit-grade maps are suitable for use in a wide variety of critical applications. Built using a proprietary geospatial data analytics model (HabitatMapperTM), Space Intelligence’s data enables project developers and investors to inform and validate forest carbon project baselines. The data is locally calibrated and captures regional factors such as national forest definitions, seasonality of forests, and cloud cover that impact land cover classification and change detection for enhanced precision allowing users to screen areas, review project activity, and perform due diligence on nature-based projects.
10-m Land Cover Data Details
Spatial coverage is currently available across 45 tropical countries, with coverage anticipated to increase over time. Countries currently available include: Belize, Benin, Bolivia, Brunei, Burundi, Cameroon, Colombia, Costa Rica, Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Indonesia, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Laos, Liberia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Peru, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Suriname, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Venezuela and Vietnam.
Data is currently available for 2020 and 2024, with annual updates planned moving forward. The annual updates will be made available in February following the mapping year (i.e. 2025 maps available in February 2026).
Detailed information on some of the land cover classes can be found below, including how Space Intelligence defines forests:
-
Forest – areas with at least 10% canopy cover of trees (woody plants capable of growing to at least 5m in height in their natural environment)
-
In some countries, additional sub-classes are available where feasible and ecologically appropriate, such as dense forest (>30% canopy cover) and open forest (10-30% canopy cover)
-
- Mangrove forest - forest areas dominated by mangrove tree species
- Timber plantations - areas dominated by artificially planted tree species for wood production (e.g., eucalyptus, acacia, pine)
- Tree crops - agricultural land used for the cultivation of tree crops (e.g., oil palm, cocoa, coffee)
Please note that this data cannot be used to confirm EUDR compliance. Users wishing to use these data to confirm EUDR compliance must access the data through the ICE CoT system. For more information, here is the license for the data in its entirety.

Requesting Space Intelligence Data
To request Space Intelligence land cover data, please fill out this form or email us at lens@upstream.tech. Orders are currently fulfilled manually, similar to tasking. Once you submit the form, our team will work to group your properties into areas of interest and get you a final quote. From there, please allow about two weeks of lead time for data delivery. Please note that order minimums begin around $6,000 for about 10,000 hectares (~ 250,000 acres).
